Survivorman Video Competition

Last spring I accepted a challenge. The television series "Survivorman" hosted a video competition, the winner of which which would receive a guest appearance on one of the episodes.  Now I really enjoy Survivorman shows and any chance to not only meet Les Stroud, but to actually go into the field with him was worth the time and effort.

The rules were simple, the video needed to be 8 minutes or less and demonstrate your ability to film, narrate, and your personality.  You did not need to be a survival expert, or be Steven Spielberg.  As I had a lot of stock footage already there was not much actual filming to be done, but instead a TON of editing.  40 hours worth of work later I emerged bleary eyed but with a rough draft.  Final review and about 10 more hours of work and I submitted a finished video to the competition.

I never heard from Les, or anyone from his staff, I do not even know if I made it into the finals round. What I do know is I am very proud of the final product and despite its low views in the past 8 months, I still enjoy the video greatly.  I hope you all take a moment to view it and see life a little through my eyes, or perhaps giggle and my narration skills.

I must leave you with my most favorite quote and featured line in the video. "Avoiding danger in the long run is no safer than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing." -Helen Keller
